There are a number of websites online that offer free dance stepsheets that you can download. You can also watch dance tutorials on YouTube. Just be sure that the choreographer is the same as the dance being done in class. There can be multiple line dances with the same name written by different choreographers, and a variety of line dances may be danced to the same music.
Some people like dance stepsheets -- they want to know the exact movements, counts, and names of the steps. Others find them confusing. Eva has stepsheets to many of the dances she teaches in class. You can take a photo of them with your phone before or after class.

Because there are so many turns in line dancing, it is recommended that you have shoes with smooth soles, suede soles, or soles designed for dancing. They make turning easier and also reduce resistance
to make turning easier on your body.
If you're just starting out, you may want to get dance socks to wear over your regular shoes; they are inexpensive and available at businesses like Amazon. Or cut up a pair of old socks to wear over your shoes.
Avoid running shoes: they can provide too much grip and may cause joint injury when turning or twisting. Because they grip so well, they do not easily allow quick direction changes or sideways movements.
(Hint: You can wear dance socks over your running shoes.)
Some people like cowboy boots, but they are heavier, less breathable and flexible, and tend to get hot during lessons. Ready to buy dance shoes? Below are a couple of businesses that sell shoes specifically for dancing.
